CHUCK FEESAGO: Off Line
• Project_210 hosts an exhibition of recent work by Chuck Feesago, a 2008-09 recipient of an Individual Artist Grant, awarded by the City of Pasadena’s Cultural Affairs Division. Feesago’s outdoor installation, On the Line, was recently presented by Side Street Projects and featured during ArtNight Pasadena, in October. The work consisted of nine paintings hung on a clothesline. For Off Line at Project_210, Feesago’s work is more conventionally hung on the walls, although his paintings are anything but traditional. Created by embedding strips of art magazines in acrylic paint and mediums, the diaphanous works float off the walls like objects, bringing them into the world of sculpture. Connecting to his heritage, Feesago references ancient Samoans, who navigated their way through the vast Pacific by noticing subtle changes in wave patterns. Today, Feesago navigates his way through Art in America, Art Forum and Art News, finding his identity in a sea of graphics, text and images. Feesago’s patterned works are loosely structured by an underlying windmill composition- a symbol of change the artist sees as an editing process, one that leads to the discovery new information or perhaps, its absence.
